Environmental Advocates NY, an affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation, works to advance environmental policies that protect New York's air, land, water, and communities. To help educate the public and hold elected officials accountable, the organization wanted a legislative scorecard that reflected the complexity of its policy priorities rather than relying on simple vote totals.
Environmental policy isn't one-size-fits-all. Some bills carry significantly greater importance than others, and the organization needed a scoring system that accurately reflected those differences.

Rather than relying on generic labels, each bill displays Environmental Advocates' own "Superbill," "Major Benefit," "Substantial Benefit," "Major Detriment," "Substantial Detriment," and "Detriment" SVG icons directly within the voting record. This allows organizations to reinforce their own brand identity while making scorecards easier for supporters to scan and understand.
